The Afra coffee table was originally a primitive wooden bed from the Naga tribes of North-Eastern India. The word Naga is derived from the Burmese language, which means ‘pierced ears’. This piercing of the ears is an old Naga tradition.
The Naga tribe is famous for it’s great craftmanship. They make all things they need themselves, mostly from organic products. This bed is hand carved out of one piece of wood. On one side it has a carved pattern in the wood, as seen on the first photo.
This object is over a hundred years old, dating from beginning 1900 or earlier. This means it contains traces of use.
